In my current project we're using Jira to track the progress in project, to storing backlog items and so on. And after few years I need to admit that is really great tool, at least is perfect for ours needs.
Ok, it's almost perfect - it's completely unrelated with motivation in our team.
Why I think so? Because we're looking at it only when one of us needs to do something there. Team members moves issues from one column to the other, product owner sorts backlog whenever there is a need, we are adding notes, attachments or we made clarification for the issues and many other things, but all of those are activities related with project life cycle. Not with motivation.
I read and heard a lot about benefits given by placing a scrum task board onto wall and I decided to ask the team whether they like this idea or not? And is it worth to try it?
I told them, that thanks this, we will always know where we are and how much things needs to be done to reach sprint goal. Of course we shouldn't stop using Jira, because I don't think that we should use the wall as a tool which let us to manage sprint more efficient (as I wrote before, current softwares gives us everything we need for those activities).
The purpose of it is different - it's all about motivation.
Our software development is fast, so why not share publicly our status? Show it somewhere, where we can see it all the time, without interruptions and without need to open other tab in the browser.
And if it will be placed on the wall, anyone, who will visit us will know where we are and he will know it without asking.
Ok, so after all, we decide to start with in from next sprint.
Do you have any own experience with using wall as a scrum task board?
