Are You the best?

Is it possible to be the best?

Everyone want to be the best in something. Subject doesn't matter, everyone trying to be the best. It's obvious and there is nothing special in this. Of course, it's very hard to make it happen and IMHO it's almost impossible, because always, out there, is someone, who know more then we. Even if it will be very specified and narrow branch of knowledge. It's just happens. But is it wrong?

I really believe - not. Being the best would be terribly boring. Being authority for everyone, noone wants to argue with you, because "you know better", no challenges, because there is noone who will challenge you.

Fortunately, as I wrote on the beggining, its almost impossible to be the best on such level, but... Being the best in your team, in your company? Can you imagine that? I believe so and few of us even was there already.

Is it really so great?

Maybe sometimes. Everyone ask you for an opinion, they ask for your help, they follow your sugestion, etc. Great, isn't it? Until it became boring. If there is noone who is better then you, it's really hard to learn anything. Of course, you can do it on your own i.e. share experience through internet, but it's still something different.

It's much more better to have someone near by, discuss with him face to face. Even argue with him, but do it personaly, not through all this fancy communication devices and services.

Everyone wants more

More money, more time, more experience, more knowledge... it's normal. And everyone wants to move forward, but if nothing more you can learn, you will stay in the same place. No, even worse, you will move backward. World is moving on and if you won't do exactly the same, distance between you and other, will be bigger each second.

And this is definately nothing that you want.

What next?

Of course, there are other ways to learn something new. Discussion on the internet, forums, meetings, trainings etc., but I really think, that work with someone, who is better than you, will bring the best results. You can learn all the time. You will learn all the time, even if you don't notice that:)

That's why I think, that if you're starting to be one of the best person in your team, you really should start thinking about what next? Maybe change the project? team? find new challenges.

But what if it's not possible? hmm... So maybe this is good time to move forward? change job? And remember, if you will decide for this step, look for the place where you will be average, because then you will have bigger chance to improve your skills, learn something new, be better in what you do.
